The On the Greaux crew had to repair the Bluff Road Bridge (La. 928) over I-10 to replace a damaged girder and to raise the bridge to meet updated interstate standards. Keeping the bridge open during these operations would not have been safe, so the bridge was closed, repaired and re-opened over the summer of 2018.
The closure took place after the Ascension Parish public schools recessed on May 25, 2018. The bridge re-opened on July 24, 2018 - a full two weeks ahead of schedule and before school began for the fall session.
Signs announcing the bridge closure were posted for a week before it was closed, and detour routes were prominently posted during the closure.
DOTD traffic engineers monitored critical traffic signals along the detour route and made adjustments according to new traffic patterns that resulted from the detour.
Three-way stop signs were installed at Bluff Road and C. Braud Road in anticipation of increased traffic because of the detour.
DOTD and its team also worked closely with officials in Ascension Parish to keep local traffic moving as efficiently as possible.
