New "On the Greaux" website has latest project news, updates
May 24, 2018 - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has launched onthegreaux.com, an online center for news, photos, videos, and links to social media platforms about the Interstate 10 widening project from Baton Rouge to La. 73 in Ascension Parish.
The “On the Greaux” project widens I-10 to six lanes from Highland Road in Baton Rouge to La. 73 in Ascension Parish. This 6.5-mile segment of the interstate carries more than 95,000 vehicles a day and is frequently congested, especially during morning and afternoon drive-time hours.
DOTD selected the name On the Greaux as a reflection of the state’s progress in building for the future, with a touch of Louisiana flair. Visitors to the site can get construction updates, follow the project on their favorite social media channel and sign up for email updates on the latest news.
“Widening I-10 to six lanes between East Baton Rouge and Ascension parishes will not only mitigate traffic, but it will benefit business and industrial growth along the New Orleans-to-Baton Rouge corridor,” DOTD Secretary Dr. Shawn Wilson said. “On the Greaux captures the spirit of putting Louisiana first by moving the state forward through transportation infrastructure improvements that foster economic development and improve the quality of life of our citizens.”
Construction on the project began in February 2018 and is expected to take about two years to complete. This east-west corridor is the main route for people traveling between Baton Rouge and the rapidly growing suburban areas of northern Ascension Parish. This portion of I-10 between Baton Rouge and New Orleans also is one of the busiest surface freight routes in Louisiana.
